When You Bring a New Baby Home
When you bring a new baby home this is an exciting and happy time for both the parents and the new baby. With so much excitement and planning for things to go perfectly parents often overdress their infant for their trip home. A good guide to follow is dress your baby comfortably but don’t overdress. If the weather is warm just a t-shirt or onesie, diaper and light blanket to prevent the little one from becoming chilled is all that is needed. If the weather is cold outside a warm set of clothing, hat and blanket are great.Confused? Here ‘s a little help . Most important to remember is to have your baby secure in a car seat. Not only is this the law but the best way to protect your baby from sudden mishaps. If you have a pet it is a good idea to let your pet smell a blanket or piece of clothing with your baby’s scent on it. This can be done even before your little one is brought home. Important precaution is to NEVER leave your newborn alone with your pet. Family and friends will be so eager to see your new arrival and want to come for a visit. Limit the number of guests and the time period for visitations for the first few weeks. Too many visitors can tend to tire mom and the newborn and be a bit overwhelming. If anyone has a cold or is just getting over an illness it is best for them to wait before coming to share in your joy and cuddle your newborn. Washing your hands frequently is an excellent health measure and asking guests to please wash their hands before holding your newborn is also of equal importance. When questions arise concerning your newborn always call the pediatrican for professional answers.
